Another Eden is a free-to-play (F2P) single-player online gacha game that is playable both on mobile and PC (Steam). Another Eden is one of the best F2P JRPGs I have ever played. There are more than 300+ hours of content, including beautiful stories made by Masato Kato, who has created scripts for legendary games such as Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Final Fantasy, accompanied by fantastic music by famous composers such as Yasunori Mitsuda, Shunsuke Tsuchiya, and Mariam Abounnasr.

Gameplay

Another Eden Gameplay

The game is mainly played in a turn-based system. We can select up to four characters to fight in the front-line with two characters as a reserver. Players can switch characters from reserve to front to give Valor Chant, which gives a slight advantage in the battle with its various effects. When a character dies, the reserve is not automatically replicating the font characters. The player must deliberately click on the reserve and choose the option to put them in-front of line. The battle system is simple; as characters have skills, we may decide to win the battle. The action ranges from basic attack, non-type attack, elemental attack, buff team, debuff enemy, inflict status ailment, and heal characters. Just like regular RPG games, both enemies and characters have strengths and weaknesses that players can use to win the battle.

Some unique features make this game more enjoyable compared to the basic turn-based system. The features are unlocked as the story progresses. Here are some features that the game offers besides the normal buffing and debuffing characters:

  1. Another Force

Another Force is a bar that we can see from the top right corner of the picture. The bar is progressively filled by dealing damage to the enemy. Once the bar is filled or half-filled, the button can be pressed to deal skills to enemies with 0 cost of MP. The system can be strategically used against strong enemies, such as final bosses, to deal huge chunks of damage.

  2. Sidekick

Sidekick is also known as pets. It allows you to bring magical creatures to the battlefield and gives you a slight advantage. Depending on the creatures, the effect will be different. Pets can have various effects, such as healing your characters, attacking the enemy, putting buffs on the character, debuffing the enemy, and so on. Further, most of the pets are free. As players, we can finish some side-quests or just progress through stories to get the pets and put them in battle as sidekicks.

  3. Stellar Burst

The newest additional feature in Another Eden is the stellar burst, shown by a clock with a moon ornament on the battle screen that is filled through time and can be activated once the bar is full. However, to use Stellar Burst, the character must be upgraded to their Stellar Awakening form, which may need F2P players to grind to get the materials or spend some money to quicken the process.

Characters and Gacha System

The game has a character gacha system, meaning that we can roll for characters using the in-game currency, Chrono Stones, to be able to use them. The game does provide free characters, but obviously, as with many other gacha-based games, the gacha characters would be far stronger and have a better set of skills.

Strong Character obtained through Gacha
Wider range of abilities and stronger stats of gacha character

Despite the game being a gacha system, it is tremendously generous for F2P players to earn Chrono Stones. Here are some of the ways to get free Chrono Stones:

  1. Complete in-game achievements

2. Watch promotional advertisement

3. Login the game

A cat delivers free chrono stones every day login

4. Limited Promotional Events

Once in a while, game developers provide free Chrono Stones

Additional Contents

Another Eden is a story-driven game, however if it only relies on its main story, not only the game content is shorter but also dull. Here are some additional contents Another Eden provides:

Episode

Episodes are side stories that provide free characters for players once completed. Episodes offer various new mechanics and approaches to the game. One example is The Wryz Saga I-III, which provides the mechanic of raising dragons and unlocking roadblocks through potent weapons obtained through story progression. These episodes are unlocked through main story progression.

Various episodes added every game version update

Symphony

Another Eden is a type of game that collaborates with various other games (Persona 5 Royal, Chrono Trigger, Octopath Traveller). These collaborations often

Various symphonies featuring characters from other games
Another Eden collaboration with Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Arise game

Collectibles

Various mechanics mainly allow the player to collect these things, as it is also included in the achievement.

Various in-game collectibles

Final Thoughts

This game is enjoyable for those who like turn-based JRPG games with tremendous stories. However, the amount of existing content emphasising stories and dialogue could be overwhelming and might seem boring to some players as you cannot skip the stories. For those who enjoy a chill game that you can enjoy in your free time and read through the stories, it is truly a worthwhile experience. The thing I like best is how intricate the characters are designed, and there are many side quests with wholesome stories. Some even made me laugh or feel empathic with the characters. The game will keep updating its contents, and with its generosity for both new and F2P players, it will be a must-experience game.
