Kartini Day - 21st April

Raden Ajeng Kartini is such an amazing person to me. In a world where everyone thinks it is normal for women not to explore themselves or develop their knowledge through education, she breaks through society.

For the past few years, I have usually heard about women's empowerment; these days, especially where I live, it is still needed as people discriminate against women's abilities.

Though after surveying and conducting a webinar about gender equality, it is common in a city for women to lead a company or be respected about their life choices. Yet, in remote areas, the tendency to limit women's opportunities to develop higher career choices and or education still exists.

I shifted my mind not to see it as a women's need but for everyone. Women's empowerment means community empowerment.

As one of the important points in Sustainable Development Goals, I truly believe this needs everyone's involvement.

The reason why I'm creating this thread is not only to share my thoughts but also since people around me still think women do not have any right to express them fully.

One example of it is when I play a fighting-type mobile game. They would say it's weird and it's uncommon. Another simple example is when I helped to bring heavy-load items such as huge boxes. Even though I still managed to carry them, they didn't let me do it. They will say, let the boys handle it. At that moment, I saw the actual truth in my place. People will say they approve of Kartini day, and they might say they truly believe in creating a better environment. Though in real-life applications, I still see people focusing on women whenever there are rape cases. My friend, who has been a victim of sexual harassment, are afraid to tell the authority as they feel society would blame them right away.
